CLICK HERE to view the spectacular wedding of two of our close friends. Aletha and Rob were married just a short distance from their home in Poipu, at the Kiahuna Plantation Gardens. Overlooking the turquoise ocean water crashing against the rocky coast, friends and family gathered from near and far to share this special celebration. A light sprinkle blessed the day as Aletha and Rob shared a private moment before their festivities began. Julia and I truly enjoyed every second of capturing the laughter, love, and sweet embraces that is so natural to these beautiful newlyweds. It was a picture perfect ceremony followed by an intimate reception with many personal touches and heartfelt toasts. We even got to take home our favorite Monkeypod Jam! Much love and aloha, a huge CONGRATS, and enjoy the photos!

We managed to sneak in another funday with the Kauai Crossfitters in celebration of September birthdays. The day was complete with a huge blow-up waterslide, live band, freestyle frisbee, an assortment of superfoods, full moon, and several hours spent on our communal mini-ramp. After complete exhaustion set in, I ended up kidnapping Jerome‘s new micro 4/3 camera and snapped a few shots of the halfpipe action. This is as close as you get to a formal black and white affair on Kauai…

CLICK HERE to view our second photo shoot with Monkeypod Jam. This time we focused on the different flavor combinations that go into each artisan fruit spread, highlighting local ingredients, plated creations, and more tropical fruit grown on Kauai. After the fruit was cut, the jam was spread and the plates were photographed, we couldn’t let anything go to waste so I definitely took advantage of the opportunity. As always, it was such a fun (and delicious) session with Monkeypod Jam’s owners/operators, Aletha and Rob. Next up, the Monkeypod wedding!

CLICK HERE to view the complete wedding day of two incredible people at one of Kauai’s most beautiful gardens. Na ‘Aina Kai Botanical Gardens in Kilauea offers a variety of unique locations that create the perfect setting for a romantic celebration. Aleetza and Jason were married in a gorgeous teak forest as their close family and friends gathered to support their union. They exchanged vows as a cool breeze lifted off the ocean and swept gently through the canopy of trees. Following a quick photo session on the bluff, their reception took place in a grassy field next to the breaking waves of a private beach. Julia and I enjoyed every second of capturing the breathtaking scenery surrounding this absolutely stunning couple. Special thanks to Marlene from Mira Mira Events who coordinated a memorable event with elegantly refined details and many creative touches. A huge CONGRATS and enjoy the photos!

It was great having Lara and Alex stay with us for part of their Kauai vacation. In the few days we spent together, we made the most of summer weather and enjoyed being outdoors, in the sun and at the beach. We had tons of fun living it up as tourists, covering the highlights around the island, snorkeling and shell hunting, plus encouraging Julia to make more lilikoi bars. It was a really nice way to catch up with good friends and end our summer break on a high note before getting back into the school schedule. Check out the slideshow…

CLICK HERE for an inspiring look into the love shared between our good friends, Tiara and Mat. Their engagement session took place bright and early as the soft summer sunlight blanketed Secret Beach, along Kauai’s North Shore. Julia and I were so happy for this chance to capture the radiant beauty, compassionate spirit, and contagious laughter that Tiara and Mat always provide. Set against the natural backdrop at one of my favorite locations, these two looked smokin’ hot together as all the elements fell into place for spectacular imagery. Can’t wait for the wedding!!!

CLICK HERE to check out Kauai’s abundance of fresh fruit, friendly farmers, and the local artisan fruit spreads made by our friends Aletha and Rob at Monkeypod Jam. These jams and jellies are truly delicious with creative flavor combinations and the highest quality ingredients, plus they’re made with tons of aloha – a must try and a definite buy! Julia and I had a great day following Aletha around on her normal routine of visiting farmers, picking fruit, and tending her elegantly arranged vendor station at the Waipa Farmer’s Market. In an effort to visually enhance their online marketing presence, these images will soon appear throughout their website. Looking forward to a heavy spread of Lilikoi Curd on my morning english muffin.

CLICK HERE to see my brother’s family in action during a special California portrait session. On our recent summer trip, Julia and I were lucky enough to spend an entire week at the other Sanderl compound with my brother, his wife and their two beautiful girls. With a new baby boy on the way, they were happy to let us document this special time in their lives. From their neighborhood parks to Shaver Lake, we couldn’t stop taking photos! We even had a little time after dinner to makeshift a garage studio and sneak in a quick pregnancy session. Much love to the Sanderl gang and hope you enjoy the gallery.

banana.jpg

Weighing in just shy of 100 lbs, this is the first bunch of ripening bananas from our yard. Currently, we have six other banana trees that are also flowering. We’ll definitely have our hands full if they all become ripe at the same time, but luckily our friends in the neighborhood are happy to help us out. For us this is a whole new level of gardening with amazing results!

As always, we really enjoyed our time spent with Julia’s parents. Their visit included the perfect balance of adventurous days in the water and low-key relaxation with books, naps and swinging in the hammock. One memorable highlight of their stay was when Big Daddy Wags and Our #1 Fan treated us to a special four-year anniversary dinner at Josselin’s. We all agree that our entire family excels at eating great food together. Hopefully our level of activity was enough to burn off the extra desserts. Renting boats from our friends at Wailua Kayak Adventures was another highlight that included a solo tour of Fern Grotto, hunting for rope swings, barefoot hiking through sludge, and Marty’s 100 foot shower under Secret Falls. Thanks again for stocking our fridge and filling up our gas tanks… we’re already starting to run low on supplies and need you to come back soon ;) We miss you both! Hope you enjoy the short video (above) and photos (below).

CLICK HERE for a look at Judy and Bruce’s vow renewal ceremony and romantic portrait session after 35 years of marriage. These two have not missed a step in their devotion and love for one another. With their shared humor, youthful spirits, and playful nature together, it’s easy to see how their life-long commitment works so perfectly. We were blessed with another gorgeous day at Shipwreck’s Beach in Poipu on Kauai’s beautiful South Shore to photograph this special ceremony dedicated to the everlasting bonds of marriage. Mahalo to Judy and Bruce for inviting us to take part in this memorable celebration. Enjoy the photos!

CLICK HERE to see our online gallery of the Vogt’s family photo session from Ke’e Beach on Kauai’s North Shore. This family was ready for some exploration as we faced the natural elements of a jungle walk to the beach with frequent squalls of wind and rain throughout the portrait session. We had a great time sharing stories as the five of us ducked for cover under a single umbrella while we waited for the skies to clear. Waiting out the weather payed off with dramatic views of the Napali coast and a colorful sunset that finished off the session beautifully. We were so happy to have met and worked with the Vogt family. Their patience and openness to adventure made this a memorable photo session in a challenging location. Much aloha and enjoy the photos!

california.jpg

After three years since our last California visit, it was really special for us to spend time with family and friends on their home turf. We started our trip in San Francisco with Matt & Matt’s Julia at their awesome Sausalito home. They were both incredibly hospitable with great meals, city adventures, hiking in Muir Woods and even a cold water surf session. Matt let me borrow his not-so-short shortboard, gloves, booties and wetsuit hood for the 50 degree water and we had a great time sharing waves at his home break. Matt’s Julia kept us on a healthy regimen by cooking up amazing dinners and also taking us along to workout at Crossfit Sausalito. After several fun-filled days in SF, we met up with my brother and headed down to his new house in Clovis, CA. Spending family time with my nieces was really the highlight of our trip. Stay tuned for some higher quality photos from the family photo session we did with Jason, Debbie and the girls. Slip ‘n sliding during Jay’s backyard barbecue, our trip to Shaver Lake, and working out with the whole family in their garage gym are new memories that we’ll share forever. We finished up our trip with a couple relaxing days at my parents house in Oxnard, CA. Before heading home, we also had the chance to sneak out to Malibu for a beautiful hike with our friends Jeff and Brittany. Many thanks to our family and friends for all the amazing accommodations and be sure to check out the slideshow…
